Description of Woodman Point (Australia)

Woodman Point is for sure one of the coolest Kite spots in the Perth Urban area. It is easy to reach and it offers conditions for all levels of riders, from beginner up to wakestyle/freestyle experts. There are basically 3 kite spots in one, with three different beaches. The southeast one has shallow waters and is best suitable for beginners, though for this reason it is often crowded on good windy days, both by riders and schools. The southwest beach according to the different wind directions can be flat or even become a fun small waves spot. The north beach, normally interested by offshore winds, offers a mirror flat water, great for freestyle, but for that reason, only advanced riders should kite here. The best season is from October to April when the Southeast winds blow consistently. During the winter season, some days can offer northwest winds, but normally not very reliable.

Dangers

The reef can be sharp and is distributed randomly around the point. Beaches to launch are a bit narrow. Sharp shells on the beach can tear the kites. The intermediate beach was originally a windsurfers spot and right of way must be given to them. Also on Waper Groyne, there is a nesting dedicated area for Fairy Terns. There are buoys marking the area and there it is strictly prohibited to kitesurfing in the months between September 1st and January 31st. On the flatwater north beach, it is mandatory to follow the freestyle etiquette avoiding short tacks. It is prohibited to walk the dunes.
