Description of Jericoacoara (Brazil)

Jericoacoara, commonly referred to as Jeri, is a coastal town in northeastern Brazil that features a blend of vast beaches and high dunes set within a national reserve. The town maintains its natural character with sand roads and minimal street lighting. Kitesurfing conditions are generally favorable, particularly from July to January, with wind speeds averaging between 20 to 25 knots.

Kitesurfing takes place primarily outside the main beach area, which is off-limits to this sport and reserved for beachgoers and windsurfers, so most kitesurfers head south toward Prea and Barrinha. While conditions suit a range of skill levels, beginners may find the wind strength to be a challenge. The area also offers downwinders and access to flatwater lagoons like Guriu and Tatajuba, providing opportunities for varied kitesurfing experiences. Accommodation options vary from upscale villas to local pousadas and hostels.
