Description of Ponte Caffaro (Italy)
For those who go kiting in northern Italy during the spring, summer, or autumn seasons, this hidden gem near the Po Valley is worth exploring. When westerly winds sweep across the region, this spot becomes an ideal destination for kitesurfing enthusiasts.
Located within convenient reach of Brescia and Verona, this kite spot offers a less crowded alternative to the popular lakes of Garda and Como. Its relative obscurity among foreign visitors contributes to a more relaxed atmosphere, allowing for a more authentic local kitesurfing experience.
The conditions at this spot are generally favorable for riding, with relatively easy waters that cater to intermediate and advanced kiters. However, it's important to note that this location is best suited for independent riders who can confidently navigate upwind. The ability to consistently ride upwind is crucial here, as there are no support services available on the water.
One of the standout features of this spot is the spacious grass area designated for kite setup. This ample space provides comfort and safety when preparing your equipment. The local kitesurfing community is known for its friendliness, often willing to assist with kite launches, adding to the welcoming atmosphere of the spot.
While this location may lack the international recognition of other Italian kitesurfing destinations, it compensates with its uncrowded waters and the opportunity to ride alongside local enthusiasts. For kiters seeking a less touristy experience in northern Italy, this spot offers a perfect blend of favorable conditions and local charm.
Remember to check local wind forecasts before going to this spot, particularly for westerly winds in the Po Valley, to catch the best kitesurfing days at this spot. As with any new location, it's advisable to familiarize yourself with any local rules or guidelines before your session.
