Description of Vievis (Lithuania)
Vievis lake is close to the Lithuanian capital Vilnius (30 min. drive) and is easily accessible through a dirt road, coming directly from the highway. There is plenty of space in the meadow close to the beach to set up the kite and launch. The entrance into the water can be a bit steep and there are some trees, but once inside, it offers a wide area of shallow water where it is easy to take the board and start. Being the closest to Vilnius, together with Elektrenai, the spot can get relatively crowded and it is also frequented by windsurfers. The best months to ride go from March to October and in winter it is possible to snow-kite on the frozen lake.

Dangers
The entrance is steep and at the very beginning of the beach, there are several debris and stones. In the vicinity of the beach, on the right side of the entrance, there is a barely visible drowning rock. There is a powerline in the meadow close to where to set up the kites but it is disabled with no electricity, it remains a risk of tangling the kite. There are some trees at the entrance and the wind is often pretty gusty so it requires good attention when entering. Not a spot for absolute beginners, you need a solid kite control.

Vilnius is close by. The village around the lake is small without any remarkable infrastructure. The close Orthodox church visible from the highway is worth a stop.
