Description of Neretva (Croatia)
In the European summer, Neretva should be considered one of the top spots to go kiting to. The location, situated directly at the mouth of the Neretva River, is protected by the riverbank, creating an extensive area of flat, hip-deep water that is perfect for kite surfing.
The spot's unique geography and wind patterns make it an exceptional destination for kite surfers. The beach, while not overly large, provides ample space to comfortably launch your kite, even when the area becomes somewhat crowded during the peak summer months of June and August. The wind at Neretva is primarily driven by the thermal effect during the warm summer days, with the Bernoulli effect created by the coastline and nearby islands further enhancing the wind, resulting in a high percentage of rideable days throughout the high season.
One of the standout features of Neretva is the opportunity to kite in the freshwater inside the river mouth, an area that sees relatively few kite surfers. This tranquil environment offers mirror-like flat water, providing a serene and unique kiting experience that can't be found elsewhere. Whether you prefer the exhilaration of riding the wind-swept flats or the calmer waters of the river mouth, Neretva has something to offer every kite surfer.
