Description of Retamar (Spain)

This kite spot in the East area of Almeria presents a wide mix of sandy and pebble beaches. As per the majority of the spots in the area, the best seasons are autumn and especially spring, while the summer it offers little wind and a very crowded beach. Normally the authorities in the high season forbid the practice of kitesurfing on the beach, even though there might be the chance of exiting to the sea from a nautical channel. The spot works best with southwest and west winds, the local 'Poniente' as it is called here. During the months from February to June the windy days happen very often and the beach is practically empty. There are waves that shore-break so with strong winds pay attention to that, but normally they are not very big. On days when the 'Levante' wind is dominating, you can try Los Genoveses and Playa Costa Cabana.
