Go kiting to Turkey: Why choose this country?
Turkey is one of the most diverse kitesurfing destinations in the Mediterranean, with excellent conditions along both its Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. A combination of thermal winds and the seasonal Meltemi creates reliable summer conditions in many areas, attracting kitesurfers from across Europe. From Çeşme and Alaçatı to Bodrum, Datça and the southern coast, there are countless beaches and bays to explore, with conditions ranging from flat water to open-sea riding.
The country’s long coastline means that different regions offer very different riding experiences. Alaçatı is particularly well known for its thermal wind and shallow, sheltered water, while other Aegean destinations provide more exposed conditions and stronger winds. Further south, the Mediterranean coast offers warm water, beautiful beaches and a longer summer atmosphere. With so many spots spread across the country, Turkey works equally well for riders who want to stay in one kite centre or explore the coastline by road.
When the wind drops, Turkey becomes an incredible destination in its own right. Ancient ruins, archaeological sites, dramatic mountains, turquoise bays and historic towns provide endless opportunities for exploration. Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus and the Mediterranean coast all offer very different experiences, while Turkish cuisine is a major attraction wherever you travel. And after a day of sightseeing or kitesurfing, few things are more appropriate than relaxing in a traditional Turkish hammam.
Pros: Great conditions for kiting, Relatively inexpensive
Cons: Outside tuoristic areas the language might be a problem
