Theologos is one of the easiest places on Rhodes to combine a serious kitesurfing holiday with sightseeing, making it a particularly good base for a kitesurfing trip with non-kiters or family. Its position on the northwest coast puts you close to Rhodes Town, traditional villages, archaeological sites and some of the island's best-known natural attractions. When the Meltemi takes a day off, there is therefore little reason to sit on the beach waiting for the forecast to change.

One of the easiest excursions is the famous Valley of the Butterflies, located only a short drive inland from Theologos. The shaded valley is crossed by streams, small waterfalls and wooden walkways beneath dense vegetation. During summer, large numbers of Jersey tiger moths gather in the valley, creating the natural phenomenon for which the area has become famous. Even outside the main butterfly season, the forest and walking paths provide a cool, green contrast to the exposed kite beaches of the west coast.

History lovers can continue south along the west coast to Ancient Kameiros. Once one of the three major ancient cities of Rhodes, together with Lindos and Ialysos, Kameiros was built amphitheatrically on a hillside overlooking the Aegean. The archaeological remains include houses, streets, the ancient Agora, temples and an impressive water system, while the elevated location provides beautiful views across the west coast. It is a particularly good half-day excursion because you can explore the ruins in the morning and still return to Theologos if the Meltemi starts building later.

Another nearby option is Filerimos Hill, above Ialysos. The area combines archaeological remains, a medieval monastery, pine and cypress forest and panoramic views across northern Rhodes. Walking paths around the hill make it a pleasant place to escape the summer heat, while the archaeological remains reflect the long history of ancient Ialysos. Its location between Theologos and Rhodes Town also makes Filerimos easy to combine with a visit to the capital.

If the forecast is completely flat, spend the day exploring Rhodes Town. The Medieval City of Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive historic centres in the Greek islands. Inside its enormous fortified walls, narrow lanes lead between stone houses, churches, squares and monuments dating from the period of the Knights of Saint John. The Street of the Knights and Palace of the Grand Master are highlights, but simply wandering through the old town is part of the experience. Outside the walls, Mandraki harbour and the modern city offer restaurants, shops and cafés for the rest of the day.

For a longer road trip, head across the island to Lindos and southern Rhodes. Lindos is one of the most beautiful villages on the island, with whitewashed houses clustered beneath its ancient acropolis and two sheltered bays below. Its narrow pedestrian streets, rooftop restaurants and spectacular Aegean views make it worth visiting even if you have already spent several days around the beaches. Starting early gives you time to explore Lindos before continuing farther south towards the quieter landscapes of Rhodes.

If everyone is happy with a longer drive, Prasonisi at the southern tip of the island provides an interesting contrast to Theologos even when you are not going there to kite. The long sandy isthmus and exposed landscape create one of the most distinctive coastal settings on Rhodes. The drive south also passes through quieter villages and countryside, making the journey itself a good opportunity to see parts of the island that many visitors staying around Rhodes Town never explore.

For something simpler, stay around Theologos and discover the local west-coast atmosphere. Traditional tavernas serve grilled fish, meat, Greek meze and local dishes, while the surrounding villages provide a much quieter experience than the large resorts farther north. Swimming, relaxing on the beach or taking a drive along the coast are easy options for a non-kiting partner who does not necessarily want a full day of sightseeing.

For anyone planning a kite trip to Rhodes and wondering what else there is to do, Theologos is particularly well positioned. The Valley of the Butterflies and Ancient Kamiros provide easy half-day excursions, Rhodes Town can fill an entire windless day, and Lindos and southern Rhodes are close enough for a memorable road trip. This combination of reliable Meltemi conditions and activities away from the water makes Theologos an excellent base for couples, families and groups where not everyone has come to Rhodes purely for kitesurfing.
