Go kiting to Spain: Why choose this country?

Spain is one of Europe’s most diverse kitesurfing destinations, thanks to its position between the Mediterranean and Atlantic and its huge variety of coastlines. From the windy beaches of Cádiz and Andalucía to the Mediterranean shores of Murcia, Valencia and Catalonia, there are spots to suit very different riding styles and conditions. With the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands further south in the Atlantic, Spain offers plenty of possibilities for kitesurfing throughout much of the year.

The country’s different regions bring their own wind patterns, landscapes and riding environments. Cádiz and the surrounding Atlantic coast are particularly known for strong and reliable winds, while Mediterranean spots can offer warmer water and more varied conditions depending on the season. The Canary Islands extend the season further, with several islands offering excellent wind and a mix of flat-water and wave spots. This geographical variety makes Spain a destination worth exploring rather than simply visiting one kite spot.

And when the wind drops, Spain has more than enough to keep any traveller busy. Historic cities, spectacular architecture, mountain landscapes, Mediterranean beaches and charming villages provide endless opportunities for exploration. Cons: Some very popular places can get very crowded during the main season. Restrictions on beaches for kiters in summer. On the Atlantic coast wetsuit is normally needed.
