This artificial lagoon offers excellent flat-water kitesurfing conditions when the Tramontana, the strong northerly wind typical of the Mediterranean, begins to blow. Its sheltered waters provide a smooth surface ideal for freeriding, freestyle and practising new manoeuvres, while the open sea lies just beyond a narrow strip of sandy beach. This unusual setting allows experienced riders to enjoy both flat-water sessions in the lagoon and more challenging wave conditions on the seaward side, where access and local regulations permit.
The lagoon provides a relatively protected riding environment, with enough open water to accommodate several kitesurfers comfortably. However, popular windy days can attract larger numbers of riders, making careful launching, landing and maintaining safe distances particularly important. Strong Tramontana winds can also be gusty, so riders should remain attentive to changing conditions despite the generally sheltered water. Overall, the combination of flat water, reliable northerly wind opportunities and nearby open-sea riding makes this an appealing spot for intermediate and experienced kitesurfers.

The main hazards at this lagoon come from strong Tramontana winds, which can become gusty and demanding despite the generally flat and sheltered water. Sudden increases in wind strength require good kite control, particularly during launching and landing. Choose your kite size carefully and remain aware of changing wind conditions throughout the session.
The lagoon can become crowded on popular windy days, with several riders sharing the same flat-water area. Maintain sufficient distance from other kiters, especially when practising freestyle manoeuvres, and take extra care during launching and landing to avoid tangled lines or collisions.
The lagoon bottom is not particularly clean and may contain shells, stones, debris or other sharp objects hidden beneath the water. Protective footwear is strongly recommended, especially when walking through shallow sections or recovering equipment. The nearby open sea can also develop waves and more challenging conditions during strong winds, so only venture beyond the lagoon where access is permitted and conditions match your experience.

How to get There
The spot is midway between Casalabate and San Cataldo. Drive along the coast on Sp133. if you are coming from the north (Brindisi), you will find the lagoon on your left 2/3 km after passing Torre Chianca. If you are coming from the South, pass Frigole and you will find the lagoon and the dirt road that leads to it after 1 km on the right.
